Notes:
Here and again in
chi 527 the lexicographer is distinguishing two words which were pronounced the same by his time:
xrhsto/s "good" and
xristo/s "anointed." This confusion goes back to the time of Tacitus, who reports that the Christians were followers of one Chrestos (
Annals 15.44.2-8: web address 1).
[1] Likewise or similarly in other lexica.
[2] (Lacking, Adler reports, in ms S.) Quotation unidentifiable; tentatively attributed by Adler to Symeon Metaphrastes.
[3] Similar material, variously, in other lexica.
