Headword: *xiliwqe/nta
Adler number: chi,307
Translated headword: thousanded
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Meaning [him] having been fined a thousand [drachmas].[1] So Lycurgus. The same writer also said [that someone] "thousanded [sc. somebody]".[2]
Greek Original:
*xiliwqe/nta: a)nti\ tou= xi/lia sofa\ o)/nta: w(s *lukou=rgos. o( d' au)to\s kai\ xiliw=sai e)/fh.
Notes:
From Harpokration s.v.
The headword is the aorist passive participle, masculine accusative singular, of xilio/omai.
[1] Lycurgus fr. 11 Conomis, from the speech Against Aristogeiton. The Suda text (sofa\ o)/nta, 'being wise') is corrupt here; read o)flo/nta from Harpok.
[2] Lycurgus fr. 60 Conomis, from the speech Against Kephisodotos. Again the Suda mss have it wrong: this infinitive is not aorist active xiliw=sai but perfect passive kexiliw=sqai 'has been thousanded'. This verb apparently occurs only in the passive (and rarely even so).
