From Harpokration s.v. See also
beta 467.
In fact the plural demotic Boutadai, rather than this "Boutia" (Bouteia in Harpok.), normally served as the name of the deme itself. Boutadai lay inside the city walls of
Athens, probably in the vicinity of the Sacred Way. Its name suggests a connection with the aristocratic and priestly clan (genos) of the Eteoboutadai (
epsilon 3283).
Lycurgus (
lambda 825) -- who has perhaps generated this entry -- was a member of both.
