Mt. Aigaleos is in Attica (and should not be confused with Mt. Aigaleon in
Messenia). It lies NW of the city of
Athens, with a commanding view of
Salamis bay; see
Herodotus 8.90.4, where Xerxes watches from there as his fleet loses the sea-battle of
Salamis (480 BCE).
It is mentioned in the genitive case in
Callimachus,
Hecale fr.238 (line 23), which was perhaps cited in this entry's missing conclusion. The regular Attic genitive singular is
