[Meaning] without flattery.
*)aei/rwn: a)qw/peutos.
Same entry, according to Adler, in the
Ambrosian Lexicon.
By contamination with
alpha 638, presumably, the headword has been transmitted as the masculine present participle
a)ei/rwn ("raising"), which has caused the gloss to be masculine also. Both should in fact be neuter.
Hesychius (alpha1311) and the
Etymologicum Magnum (21.43) gloss
a)/eiron (or
a)/iron) with
a)/rrhton as well as
a)qw/peuton: this would suggest derivation from the root *
wer- as in
e)rw=. See LSJ s.v. (web address 1). For a homonym, see
alpha 637.
