rho 211, where the dative of the name Admon is spelled with omicron rather than, as here, omega. (
a)/dmwnes or
a)/dmwes were a kind of sea-fish mentioned twice by
Oppian,
Halieutica: 3.371 and 380.) The
rho 211 entry shows the present phrase in context: "[Rhodopis] was enslaved, with Aesop, to Admon of
Mytilene". The main Aesop entry,
alphaiota 334, calls the man a Samian rather than a Mytilenian, and gives his name as Iadmon; this is probably authentic in both respects - see
Herodotus 2.134.3.
