The story here concerns a forward detachment of Roman soldiers who in 589 capture two Persian scouts dressed as Romans. The scouts tell of a nearby group of Persian fighters, arms down and resting unawares. But after following the captives to the purported location, the credulous Romans are themselves ambushed and taken prisoner; see related entries at alpha 3257 and alpha 3523.
