The Ardiaioi were the dominant Illyrian tribe at the time of the Roman wars with Makedonia, and for some time prior to that. Their original capital seems to have been at Skodra (Shkodra, Albania) but later they shifted (or were shunted or restricted by the Romans) to territory further north.
