Translation: "[Let me be], comforters, let me be. For these things shall be called irremediable. I will never cease from my pains, thus innumerable [is the sum] of my laments." [sc. These are lines] of
Sophocles, out of
Electra, [addressed] to the chorus.[1] ["Let me be"] means permit [me], stop consoling me, that is permit me to mourn and [do not] augment my mourning through consolation. For weeping for my father will be "irremediable" for me, that is I shall never cease, but always I will be in a state of "lamentation", as of one not counting them [ = my laments], but engaging [in them] profusely. nemome/nh] in these [lamentations] and is never without her share of tears. But "numberless" is also attested, that is I will be reckoned among my laments, always lamenting.
