[(?)Name of] a river; and [referring to] a lamb.
*)amneio/s: o( potamo/s: kai\ o( a)mno/s.
Same material, variously, in other lexica.
The headword as an adjective is attested as "having to do with a lamb" (cf.
alpha 1607), e.g. of a lambswool garment (see LSJ s.v.). The same could therefore be true of rivers, i.e. an adjective hellenized from the Latin
amnis; there was, however, a river Amnias in
Paphlagonia (N.Turkey), mentioned by
Strabo 12.3.40.
