A winning throw. A proverb [sc. says]: "either triple six or three aces."
Tris hex: nikêtêrios bolos. paroimia: ê tris hex ê treis kuboi.
The phrase "triple six" is used by the watchman in the prolog of
Aeschylus,
Agamemnon (33) to describe his joy at the beacon signal announcing the fall of
Troy. The proverb here associated with it is discussed at
tau 1006; see also
eta 635. The proverb was apparently sometimes used with the Ionian dialect word for 'ones':
omicroniota 106, cf.
tau 1005.
