Aristophanes [writes]: "hail, o veteran born long ago."[2] He did not address [him] as someone revered because of the [passage of] time; for they used to call simpletons 'oldies' and 'ancients'. Meaning [hail, o] fool. And Euripides [writes]: "you have said [something] ancient."[3] Meaning simple-minded. "For I do not wish to do the body a service".[4]
