magister officiorum, commander of the elite palace guards (
scholae palatinae), from 539 to 565; cf. PLRE IIIb s.v. Petrus(6). The source text refers in fact to the
scholae, the direct targets of Petros's plunder, not "the emperors". On Petros see also
