It is a place in Thrace; but it was founded by Samians.
Also [sc. attested is] Heraion.[1]
Hêraion teichos: chôrion estin en Thraikêi: hupo Samiôn de ôikisthê. kai Hêraion.
The principal part of this entry is abridged from Harpokration (and
Photius) s.v., commenting on the appearance of this toponym in
Demosthenes 3.4.
Heraion Teichos ('Fort Hera') was a colony of
Samos in the Propontis (Sea of Marmara), founded around 600 BCE. See also
Herodotos 4.90.
[1] Differently accented, here, from the Heraion of the headword (which is an adjective); in any case, presumably here in the sense of a Hera-shrine.
