"For just as with the death[s] of Epaminondas and Pelopidas and Brasidas and Cleombrotus, historians are unable -- whether depicting their virtue in life or their stout-heartedness in death -- to find words worthy of the pioneering judgment of the men".[2]
And elsewhere: "[...] not to be fearful because the enemy were superior in numbers; for stout-heartedness always got the better of quantity".[3]

However, Büttner-Wobst does not accept the fragment as Polybian, gesturing instead (ibid.)--without an explicit citation--to Schweighäuser's having purported the fragment to have been drawn from speeches by certain sophists.
