Note:
Greek Anthology 7.241.5 (Antipater of Sidon); an elegy on a young Ptolemaic prince that died in his parents' lifetime during a pandemic; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 20) and (vol. II, 54-5). Find further excerpts from this epigram at alpha 1578, delta 1316, theta 525, tau 454, and tau 573. See also epsilon 9 and there with the same misquotation as here: read e(a\n w)lo/yato xai/thn for the Suda's e(anw|= da/yato xai/thn. Gow and Page note (vol. I, 20) that the Suda follows the Anthologia Palatina (AP) and the Anthologia Planudea (APL) in reading e(anw|= da/yato. However, they adopt the correction e(a\n w)lo/yato given by Joseph Justus Scaliger (1540-1609) (ibid.). Gow and Page also use (ibid.) the Doric spelling xai/tan, given by the AP scribe designated C (the Corrector) and the APL, but transmitted by the AP and the Suda as xai/thn.
