Chalaza
Adler number: chi,5
Translated headword: hail, hailstorm
Vetting Status: high
Translation: [Meaning] cloud, frozen and tossed through the air by the wind and carried down to earth. But snow [is] moisture, frozen out of a cloud.[1]
Hailstorms: they are freezings of the moisture overhead in the air, above the earth; in some small part it is snow and in some, hail. But below on the earth it is frost to a lesser extent, but more is ice. But falling snow is not a freezing, but rather its quality [is the same] in another appearance.[2]
Aristophanes [writes]: "from the hailstorms, o wretched
Euripides, won't you [keep yourself clear]." Meaning from the violent words.[3]
