For a)mu/ssw [derives] from ai(=ma ["blood"], [whence] ai(mu/ssw, and a)mu/ssw.
"Foam-born [Aphrodite] tore at her lovely face."[3] Meaning mangled, scraped.[4]
And in the Epigrams: "stand and watch, but you tear your heart in vain."[5]
