Positive qualities:
    I get along well with practically all the members of the department.
    I have the best interests of the department in mind.
    I have many years of experience as a faculty member.
    I know something of how the university works, having served on the 
        Physical Sciences Area Committee, the College of Engineering
        Advisory Committee, the Faculty Senate, and the Senate Council.
    Besides the good counsel of department members, I can get great
        advice from my wife, who is chair of Educational Policy Studies.

Negative qualities:
    I don't enjoy evaluating people.
    I'm not very good at managing people or budgets.
    I am not as proactive as a good chair needs to be in identifying
        opportunities and dangers and acting on them.
    I don't like meetings.
    I plan to take Sabbatical leave during the 2008-9 academic year.
