Notes:
[1] Likewise in other lexica; references at Photius tau116, where Theodoridis notes Naber's view that the headword adjective (masculine accusative plural) is quoted from Jeremiah 4.5 LXX, but cites some of the numerous other instances, beginning with two in Thucydides.
[2] Priscus fr. 1a Bornmann, still 1a Carolla, also fr. 5 Blockley (228-229), on the Germanic leader Valips; cf. alpha 3145. Precise dates are not well-attested, but sometime between 434 and 441 CE, Valips rallied a fighting force from among his resident Rugi (Rubi) tribe, attracted other Eastern Roman Empire discontents to his campaign, and managed to capture the important Roman port of Noviodunum (near the mouth of the Danube, cf. alpha 3145 note); cf. Thompson (77-78). The quotation spotlights Valips's efforts to defend his seizure of the port city from the Romans dispatched to recapture Noviodunum.
