[sc. Referring to] a place [of that name].
*)/ennaion: to/pos.
Likewise in other lexica. Lexicographers felt the need to distinguish this word with double
nu from
epsilon 1202, the verb
e)/naion with single
nu.
The simple gloss, repeated in ps.-
Zonaras, implies that 'Ennaion' (Ennaeum) is a toponym, but it is otherwise unattested as such. It is, rather, the ethnikon (masculine accusative or neuter nominative/accusative) of the city of Enna in central
Sicily. Perhaps the entry derives from
Diodorus Siculus 14.14.6, where both 'Ennan' and 'Ennaion' (i.e. accusative singulars) appear in the same sentence.
