It also means darkness.
And Aelian [writes]: "since it was late, he was eager for the murder."[3]
Also [sc. attested is the phrase] "late of nights".[4]

Adler prints the headword as a)wri/ai; it should perhaps be a)wri/a|, as in the first two quotations below (but see next note). Cf. epsilon 1117.
