The Etymologicum Magnum, in which it is transmitted that nw=ta ["backs"] or yu/an ["loin-muscle"] or yu- [...] or y- [...] with a diphthong, yo/a with a single o where instead of r(w=a [sc. there is] r(o/a, [sc. and likewise not] xrw=a [but] xro/a, since, he says, into this part the sweat flows; he wants, needless to say, the sense "that down the back" [...]; thus "notios sweat was pouring down him"; the etymologist is also saying that out of the [noun] noti/s ["dampness"], by lengthening of the omicron into omega, come both o( nw=tos and ta\ nw=ta.[3]
