Headword: *katasth/sontai
Adler number: kappa,794
Translated headword: they will appoint
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] they will declare.[1] "[...] so that they would appoint this man phylarch to the Ηomeritai."[2]
Greek Original:
*katasth/sontai: a)podei/cousin. o(/pws fu/larxon toi=s o(mhri/tais katasth/swntai tou=ton.
Notes:
[1] The headword is future middle indicative, third person plural, of kaqi/sthmi. It is evidently quoted from somewhere, but probably not the quotation which follows here (which has the aorist middle subjunctive); there are numerous possibilities.
[2] A careless approximation of Procopius, History of the Wars of Justinian 1.20.9 (web address 1): "so that the Homeritai would appoint the exile Kaïsos phylarch to the Maddenoi". The emperor Justinian (cf. iota 446) sends an envoy (ca. 528 CE) to the Homeritai (Himyarites; a people of southern Arabia, living in the highlands of present-day Yemen; cf. Barrington Atlas map 4 grids B3-C3), urging them to install the Arab chief Kaïsos (Qays; cf. PLRE IIIa s.v. Caisus) as leader of the neighboring Maddenoi and, together with them, to then attack the Persian Empire; cf. Kaldellis (53) and kappa 819.
