Note:
A transliteration of the Latin term for a hundred pounds in weight; first attested in Hero [Author, Myth] of Alexandria (1 CE?), On Measures 60.2, and frequently used by Byzantine authors, particularly Malalas and Procopius. Glossed in the Etymologicum Gudianum: "100 pounds; for the Romans call 100 centum". A centenarium is equal to 32 kilograms in weight; cf. Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium s.v. kentenarion.
