Headword: *)ekmagh=sai
Adler number: epsilon,492
Translated headword: to model
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to impress an image [on].
Greek Original:
*)ekmagh=sai: e)ktupw=sai.
Notes:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon. Earlier, Hesychius epsilon1512 had glossed e)kmagei=sai (otherwise unattested) with e)ktupwqei=sai.
The headword is apparently an aorist active infinitive of e)kma/ssw, formed on the basis of the aorist passive e)kmagh=nai (for which see Plato, Theaetetus 191E). If it is not simply generated by e)kmagei=sai (see above), it must be quoted from somewhere (and might, in context, be figurative).
cf. epsilon 491.
