Butilinus, defending the town of Parma (in northern Italy, between present-day Milan and Bologna) in 553 CE, ensconced his troops in an amphitheater, setting up an ambush (q.v. alpha 2764) against an irregular column of Heruli (cf. epsilon 901, epsilon 3058) and Roman attackers; cf.
