Lab Test Procedure
Here is how we will do our lab tests.
Discussion:
The test will be given by sections.
You will join the regular Zoom meeting for
your section at the time your section meets.
PLEASE use your usual NAME to join. If we don't know who you are,
you will be removed from the meeting!
Dr. Keen will give you permission to record a meeting.
You will be assigned a breakout room by yourself.
You can use any IDE you want, look at old feedback on Canvas,
look at the class web site or videos (don't spend too much time,
you will have a time limit!)
Look at the Internet if you want.
You cannot communicate with anyone but the TA or Dr. Keen.
There is a button on your control bar that says "Ask for help".
We can join you in the breakout room as needed.
Once you are in the breakout room,
-
Canvas will have a URL for your test. You click it and there is your test.
- We want you to share the screen
that is your IDE's editor. So if you are using Wing, it is the
whole Wing screen, if it's IDLE, it's the edit window in IDLE.
- You start recording your work. There is a record button in
the control bar. If it says you have to have permission,
ask for help and Dr. Keen will give you permission to record.
This record is your proof that you wrote the test yourself.
-
You need around 150 megabytes of space on your computer's storage,
The file will end up in a folder \Documents\Zoom\folderwithtimestamp\zoom_0.mp4
if you are using Windows.
The path name is similar on MacOS.
-
Dr. Keen or your TA may pop into the breakout room at random intervals also.
-
When you are finished with the test, you submit the .py file through a Canvas
link as usual.
-
You exit the breakout room and then the meeting.
- THEN Zoom will tell you that it is "converting the recording".
When it is finished, typically less than 10 minutes,
you will have your mp4 file. This part does NOT have to be completed in
the time limit. You have until midnight of the day of the test
to upload the video file to the proper assignment in Canvas.
Your test does not count until we get your video file.
-
As usual, inform your TA or Dr. Keen if you have any problems!
