Dr. Dakshnamoorthy Manivannan, an associate professor in the Department, has been appointed as an editor of the prestigious journal IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. Editors of this journal are selected by the IEEE Computer Society's review board upon recommendation of the Editor in Chief of the Journal. According to the journal's website, "The editor, as a member of the editorial board of the publication, is responsible for ensuring that the publication maintains the highest quality while adhering to the publication policies and procedures of both the Computer Society and of the IEEE".
The primary duties of an editor are: (i) identifying and assigning appropriate reviewers for the papers assigned, (ii) getting reviews from at least three reviewers and (iii) based on the reviews, making final recommendation to the Chief Editor regarding the acceptance of the paper. During this process, based on the reviews, the editor may ask the authors to revise the paper and the revised paper may go through further reviews. An editor, on average, is likely to be assigned about three papers a month. The initial term of an editor is two years, renewable for two additional years.
Dr. Manivannan says, "Serving on the editorial board of such a prestigious journal is not only a great honor for me but also a great recognition for the quality of my research publications among peer researchers."
Dr. Manivannan also serves on the editorial board of IEEE Communications Magazine, Information Sciences journal, and Wireless Personal Communications journal, among others. Dr. Manivannan is the first faculty member from the Department to receive the CAREER Award from the National science Foundation.
