Assistant Professor
The University of Kentucky Computer Science Department invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning August 15, 2009 at the assistant professor level in vision, graphics, and visualization. Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science when they begin employment. Review of credentials will begin immediately and will continue until a suitably qualified candidate is found.
We are interested in candidates with expertise in computer vision, image recognition, visualization, multimedia, 3-D reconstruction of environments, computer graphics, and visual analytics. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be a member of The Center for Visualization & Virtual Environments, which was established in 2003 with funding from the Kentucky Office of the New Economy and has grown to include 15 associated faculty, with upwards of $17 million in grants and contracts to date.
The University of Kentucky Computer Science Doctoral Program recently ranked in the top 20% of such programs (30 out of 157) in a nationwide analysis. The rankings -- produced by Academic Analytics -- are based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index(tm), a measure of actual faculty publication, citation, and funding rates. Among doctoral programs at public universities, UKCS was ranked 16th.
The University of Kentucky Department of Computer Science awards B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The Department has 21 faculty members committed to excellence in education, research and service. It has about 200 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.
The Department has strong research programs in distributed computing, computer networks, computer vision and graphics, artificial intelligence, scientific computing, cryptography, and information-based complexity.

We are interested in candidates with expertise in bio/medical informatics, databases, data mining, knowledge discovery, and information security. The position features opportunities for participation in the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, a newly established interdisciplinary effort involving 15 colleges on the University of Kentucky campus.
